Kansas State University Intellectual Property Information Center

The pointer in today's entry is to the Copyright Basics section of this site, because I think it has some of the best examples and links for those in search of basic copyright information and guidelines. There are also very good links concerning getting permission and there are two pages of general links that I'll be browsing for a while to come.

Michigan State Law Review Publication Agreement

I was browsing my copyright bookmarks and came accross a blog on Open Access Law that appears to be defunct, however way down on the right side there was a link to the publication agreement for the MSLR, which I think is an interesting example, and worth a glance. It might provide wording for those of you who are wondering what to do when it comes to getting your copyright agreement negotiations off the ground with your publisher.

Copyright in an Electronic Environment

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has published a clearly-written version of guidelines from the Consortium of College & University Media Centers regarding multi-media use.

I think this is worth considering as a model for institutions to use for laying out clear policy and guideline statements.

The date they post on the page is 1997.

Center for the Study of the Public Domain

It's useful for anyone studying copyright issues to examine discussion of the public domain. Those works not protected by exclusive copyright are in the public domain. In other words, they are available for copying without permission from the creator. This happens if the author explicitly offers works for the public domain or when copyright expires.

I found a link to this site from the Union College page on copyright, and it looks like it has a wealth of links to scholarship, projects and events.

My favorite pointer at the moment: Jerome H. Reichman (with Keith E. Maskus), The Globalization of Private Knowledge Goods and the Privatization of Global Public Goods

Copybites

Thanks to a note from blogger Cory Hojka I went over and checked out his blog, Copybites: Copyright Law Blog. There was lots of interesting news to peruse and it's helping me catch up on copyright issues since I've been away for awhile.

Center for Democracy and Technology

The CDT has a section on digital copyright that will be worth checking occasionally. A look through the Board of Directors reveals a list of highly respected industry and academic representatives. The Center attempts to create a balanced voice for thoughtful discourse on digital rights management

It's a good site to watch for digital copyright legislation

Copyright Blog Commencement

This blog will be specializing in copyright issues that are important to higher education. Currently those issues involve open access and the current attempts in higher education to bring down barriers to access that copyright can enforce.

The blog will look more like an extensive webliography than a discussion forum for copyright.

The University at Albany Libraries web site on copyright is here:

Intellectual Property, Copyright, and Fair Use Resources
http://library.albany.edu/digital/copyright.html

The blog will serve as a complementary resource that captures the day to day development of copyright issues, good copyright resources for the scholarly community and "how to" web resources for copyright compliance, and advocacy.
