New Carpeting at Dewey

Pardon our dust and debris! The Dewey Library is getting new carpeting. While most of the work has been done in the main room of the library, we thought you might like to see these pictures of the work.

We had to move the books off the bottom shelves of the reference and law collections.

Here is floor without carpet and with the computers covered to keep the dust out.

Dewey Library Hosts Dinner for '56 Alums

On Saturday June 3, alumni celebrating their 50th anniversary reunion enjoyed a sit down dinner in the Dewey Library. The alumni were pleased to spend time in what they remember fondly as Hawley Hall. When they were students, the downtown campus was the original location of the University (the uptown campus opened in 1966) so their memories are focused on the buildings of the original downtown campus.

Dewey Library was transformed for the evening of the event into dining room, with linen-clad tables, a wine steward, and a full course meal. It was a delight to see these alumni having a great time reminiscing about their days in college.

Here are some pictures of the alumni enjoying themselves at the dinner:

CQ Weekly Now Available Online

CQ Weekly is an authoritative source for information regarding the US Congress and its activities. Dick Irving likes the publication for it's frequent updates of congressional news as well as its analysis of political trends.

The University Libraries recently converted its subscription for CQ Weekly to the online version. Now University at Albany faculty, staff, and students can access the full text of this valuable resource from on campus or home. The online version contains the full text of articles as well as floor votes and its coverage extends back to 1983. There is a link to the database from the record for CQ Weekly in the university libraries’ online catalog, Minerva. It can also be accessed directly thru the following url: http://library.cqpress.com/cqweekly/ .

Off campus access requires that the accessing pc be set up as a proxy server (see instructions at for doing that here ).
