Citation Generators - Part III

Here is the third part in our series from Guest Blogger Jane Kessler about online resources for generating bibliographies. Today, Jane describes 3 more useful tools available on the web.

Easybib (http://www.easybib.com/) offers two services, MyBib and MyBib Pro.
MyBib is a free MLA bibliography composer that formats sources, then alphabetizes them into a list. Users fill in templates similar to NoodleBib, but there is less field by field help. Users can save on the Web, print, or export to Word.
MyBib Pro is an enhanced service that costs $7.99 per year. It produces APA and MLA citations for over 30 different types of sources. MyBib Pro also creates footnotes for all citations in an MLA list and parenthetical citations for APA. Users can import journal article citations from online databases. Easybib is based on the latest editions of the MLA Handbook and the Publication Manual of the APA.

Citation Machine
Slate Citation Machine is a free service developed by technology consultant and author David Warlick. It is available at http://www.citationmachine.net/. This is a very easy to use site that automatically produces MLA, APA, or Chicago citations for 21 different types of sources based on input from the user. Some of the source types covered include books, magazine, journal and newspaper articles, encyclopedia entries, web pages, online forum postings, and interviews. Unlike Noodlebib and Easybib, it does not create a list, just individual citations. Citations can be copied and pasted to a word processing program.

For researchers who use a lot of government documents, this site may be helpful. DocsCite (http://www.asu.edu/lib/hayden/govdocs/docscite/docscite.htm) is from Arizona State University Libraries and is a citation generator specifically for government documents. The site is free and produces either APA or MLA citations. Users select the style and format (Internet, CD-Rom, print) and then fill in a template. The program returns the formatted citation, which can be printed, saved, or copied and pasted into a word processing document. There is an excellent help link on the template page that explains in detail what to input for each field in the template.
