Barb Via, Former Head of Dewey Library, Retires

This spring, longtime Dewey librarian Barbara Via retired from her position as University Libraries Assistant Director for Graduate and Science Libraries and Circulation. Barbara is a 29 year veteran of the University Libraries -- she came to Dewey as a reference librarian in 1979, and later served as Library Science bibliographer and Head of Dewey Library (2000-2006).
Barbara was a leader in local and regional library organizations and an expert on library and information science periodicals. Over the years she became known for her commitment to library users, her intelligence and forward- looking ideas, her friendliness, and her warm, but effective, management style. Although she will continue to work part-time on some special projects uptown, Dewey Library staff already misses her!
