RIAA to sue college students?

This seems to creep up in the news a few times a year. The RIAA publicly announces their intention to pursue illegal downloading cases focusing mainly on students on college campuses. What would you do if you got such a letter? Would you admit you've been downloading illegally and pay the fine or just ignore them? What do you think?

I personally don't like the idea of being able to get in trouble for "illegal" downloading on the web. I put illegal in quotations because how can it be illegal if they allow file sharing websites to be created and used? I listen to a lot of house music and from my experience a lot of DJ's use these file sharing websites to get themselves known and if people are going to get in trouble for downloading then it ruins that person's chance of ever becoming a big name and have his songs able to be purchased. I'm always downloading music and I can't remember the last time I actually bought a song. If I were to get such a letter that had to do with an "illegal" downloading case I would obviously not ignore it because that would cause even bigger problems, so I'd definitely go to trial; however I would not admit to downloading illegally. I would try and put together a good enough case argument and try to have the case dismissed. Everyone I know downloads on the web and I'm sure everyone they know downloads. If we were all going to actually purchase the things we download we'd all be poor. I have about 2000 songs and I know I wouldn't be able to come close to affording that especially that I'm in college. Most of us college students are known for being broke with no money, so adding the purchasing of songs or anything at that matter would hit our pockets even harder. I just don't think issuing fines to people who download is a fair thing to do because lets be honest, the people giving out the fines probably download just like us.
