Libraries Support the First University at Albany Reading Project

Mountains Beyond Mountains The first University at Albany Reading Project is underway. The text chosen for this event is Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder.

The University Libraries are contributing to this effort. Librarian Elaine Lasda Bergman has created Mountains Beyond Mountains: Bibliography & Selected Resources Available at the UA Libraries. This bibliography includes reviews of the book, as well as a list of related items available in the Libraries including other books by Tracy Kidder, selected resources by Paul Farmer, and resources on health care in developing countries. Also included are links to related Web sites of interest.

The University Library has mounted exhibits to mark the event. In the lobby is a display case exhibiting "Tracy Kidder Writes about Dr. Paul Farmer." This displays information about the written works of both authors. The bulletin board near the Reference Desk offers "Exploring Themes and Issues: Mountains Beyond Mountains." This display is organized as a concept map and explores a number of themes engendered by Mountains Beyond Mountains. Users can pick up a series of bookmarks that offer additional information on these themes.

More than 20 copies of Mountains Beyond Mountains are available on reserve at the University Library. The book can be requested by call number R 154 F36 K53 2004 and is available for 72-hour loan.
