“Music of Words, Poetry of Sounds” Exhibit in Main Library

In conjunction with the Petr Kotik music residency event being held March 26-28, 2009, Greg Bobish and Mark Wolfe, University Librarians, and Michael Peters, English Department graduate student, have mounted a brand new exhibit in the Main Library. The library exhibit features Kotik’s musical scores as well as many other poetic and “musical” works under the exhibit title, “Music of Words, Poetry of Sounds.” All four exhibit cases located in the Main Library on the ground level explore the theme of music and words. Complementary items were added to the exhibit from the Geof Huth papers collection, which is located in the M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections & Archives. Also, Michael solicited visual poets from across the country to submit work appropriate for the exhibition. Michael’s knowledge of this crossover area of music and poetics is impressive as well as his eye for putting an exhibit together. If you get a chance, please take a look. Next to the exhibit cases, there are mounted posters that give more details about the works included in the exhibition.
