Featured Database - Bibliography of Asian Studies (BAS) Online

Bibliography of Asian Studies (BAS) Online covers various disciplines: the humanities, the social sciences, architecture, and those natural sciences that have strong human components, such as medicine, public health, geology and the environment.

BAS Online contains over 823,000 references to books, journal articles, individually-authored books, chapters in edited volumes, conference proceedings, anthologies, and Festschriften, etc., published from 1971 until the present day. It encompasses the full content of the printed volumes of the BAS from the 1971 to the 1991 editions (the 1991 edition was the last volume available in print form).

In addition, there are references to publications after 1991, including citations to all articles from the 100 most-used journals in Asian studies.  Full information about the years of coverage of each and every journal is provided through the Browse Journals function. Books published since 1992, however, have not been added to the database.  If you are searching for such books, please use the database WorldCat.

The BAS Online interfaces allow users to conduct both basic and advanced searches. The Basic Search mode allows you to search for keywords and select the field (Entire record, Author/Editor, Title, Journal or Subject).

In the Advanced Search mode, you can combine several search criteria (including publisher, place of publication, and ISSN), Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT (must be uppercase), limit results by year (or range of years) of publication (before, after, between, in), and limit by language, country and document type (article, book, book chapter).

Additionally, the Subject Classification of the BAS provides a list of subject terms that may facilitate your searches.  Information on how to use this database can be found on the Help page.
BAS Online is available to current students, faculty, and staff under “Databases” at the University Libraries’ Web site at http://library.albany.edu
