Thefts reported, keep your belongings with you
UPD has stepped up on campus patrols due an increase of theft reports. Deputy Chief of Police - Operations, Aran C. Mull says, “We have required more frequent patrols through the library by our patrol folks. This does include our canine officers and the canine is a pretty good conversation opener, giving us the opportunity to talk with the students about issues of concern - such as not leaving their property unattended due to the increased risk of theft during this time of year. “
Protect Your Belongings - and ours too! If you go for a coffee, or need to nip out to talk to someone on your cell, or leave the library for any other reason:
- Please don’t leave your textbooks, iPod, laptop or library equipment/resources unattended
- Back up your work after each session. Copy files to a flashdrive and store that drive separately from your computer or email files as attachments or save to your S drive. If your laptop goes missing, you will at least have access to all your data. Please back up your files so that you don’t lose a semester’s or a year’s worth of research and writing.
- If you find an item someone has left behind, please turn it in at the library circulation desk as soon as possible. Thanks!
If you see something that may be suspicious, trust your instincts and call UPD immediately. In an emergency dial 9-1-1 or call (518) 442-3131 or pick up a Blue Light or Red phone on campus. If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to program the UPD number into your cell phone - (518) 442-3131. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.
Our thanks to UPD for ensuring our safety and security at UAlbany.
