Progress Report: Single Service Desk Construction

Construction of the University Library’s new single-service Reference and Circulation desk continues.

Watch its progress on the time-lapse video created by David Dickinson, the Libraries' Interactive Media Center Training Specialist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iT_VrrCVML0&feature=youtu.be.

While renovations are underway, Circulation and Reference services will be provided to the left of the lobby entrance--where the current Reference desk is now. Reference services will not move across the first floor as announced previously.

The Libraries anticipate no interruption of service during this period. We appreciate your cooperation as we enhance our facility.

One Point of Service: Reference and Circulation Desks to be Combined

Model of Single Service Desk

This summer the University Library's Reference and Circulation desks will be joined together so that in the future, students, faculty, and staff will receive public library services at one service point. Currently, library users must go to separate desks for certain library services—for example to the Circulation desk for checkout and return of laptops, and to the Reference Desk for research guidance.

The new, single service desk will be installed at the entrance of the University Library—roughly where the current Circulation desk stands now.

The ITS Help Desk, currently located on the Lecture Center concourse (LC27) will also be joining the University Library's public service desk.

"This project will assist us in streamlining our services, as well as enhance the space on the University Library's first floor," says Rebecca Mugridge, Dean of University Libraries. "We are excited to improve our visitors' experience."

The renovation is scheduled to begin the week of June 12, 2017 and to continue throughout the summer; the new, single service desk is scheduled to be completed in August 2017.

Temporarily, while renovations are underway, Circulation services will be provided where the current Reference desk is now—off to the left of the lobby entrance. Reference services will move to a glass-enclosed office across the first floor—off to the right of the lobby entrance. The ITS Help Desk will remain in its current location (LC27) until the new desk is ready in August.

The Libraries anticipate no interruption of service during this period. We appreciate your cooperation as we enhance our facility.
