Therapy Dogs Kick Off “Stress Less Month”

Therapy dogs from nearby Schenectady will visit the UAlbany community on Thursday, November 30, 1:00–3:00 pm in the Science Library Atrium. The event marks the kickoff of “Stress Less Month,” a series of wellness programs sponsored by the University Libraries to relieve student anxiety and fatigue during final exams. All are welcome.

A fixture on college campuses during exams season, therapy dogs are known to reduce test anxiety. Recent studies indicate they also diminish feelings of depression and stress among students.1

According to Amanda Lowe, Outreach & Marketing Librarian, therapy dogs have become a University Libraries “Stress Less” staple. “I love hearing so many students say how happy they are when they see the dogs,” she says. “That's why we do it and that's what gets me excited.”

“Over the past three years, our ‘Stress Less’ programming has received such positive feedback that we decided to expand the series to a month this semester,” says Rebecca Mugridge, Dean of University Libraries. “I couldn't think of a better way to jumpstart the series than with therapy dogs.”
