Veracity in the Age of the Post-Photographic

Danny Goodwin, the New York-based artist working primarily in photography, and Associate Professor and Director of the Studio Art Program in UAlbany's Department of Art and Art History, will present "Photography is Dead. Long Live Photography! Veracity in the Age of the Post-Photographic (or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Google Image Search)" on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, 12:35–1:30 p.m. in the Science Library's Patricia and J. Spencer Standish Board Room. The event will be the first in the spring 2018 series of "Campus Conversations in Standish." Complimentary refreshments will be provided. All are welcome.

Goodwin will present his view that "the object is currency, part of a systematic staging." His photographs "translate our believability of objects into an imitation of, or detour into, what we think we see," explains Professor Goodwin. "Hand-constructed environments and objects impersonate their virtual counterparts and reveal the circular logic that undergirds much of the current popular fascination with technologies such as 3D printing."

Professor Goodwin previously collaborated with the University Libraries last spring. The exhibition, Finding Our Way: Student Work from Art 444 Advanced Photography was installed in the IMC at the University Library. "We have enjoyed working with Professor Goodwin in the past," notes Dean of University Libraries Rebecca Mugridge. "We are excited to welcome him to the Libraries' Campus Conversations series."/.

Launched by the University Libraries in spring 2015, "Campus Conversations in Standish" raise awareness of UAlbany faculty research and expertise and connect members of the UAlbany community and beyond in an exchange of ideas and perspectives. They are held two to three times per semester on selected Wednesdays, 12:35–1:30 p.m. in the Patricia and J. Spencer Standish Board Room on the third level of the Science Library. "Campus Conversations in Standish" are free and open to all.
