American Chemical Society offers RSS feeds

The American Chemical Society offers RSS feeds for its journals. An RSS reader or aggregator, or a subscription to Web-based service such as Bloglines is required. Once an RSS feed subscription is established, the RSS service will forward tables-of-contents and/or ASAP articles as they become available. ACS journals with their RSS URLs are available at http://pubs.acs.org/alerts/rss/index.html.

Resources for the History of Physics

I recently re-discovered Stephen Brush's Resources for the History of Physics. Part I is a Guide to Books and Audiovisual Materials. It contains monographs and other resources essential to the study of the history of physics. Part II is a Guide to Original Works of Historical Importance and Their Translations into Other Languages. It lists translations of important works in science. Archimedes, Aristotle, Bohr, Born, Dalton, Debye, Dirac, Einstein, Fermi, Joule, Leibniz, Lorentz, Maxwell, Newton, and Rutherford are some of the scientists covered. This book can be found in the Science Library QC 7 Z999 R 47 1972. Some of the translations can be located at the SLA-PAM Index to Translations.

Scopus Citation Tracker

Scopus is a multidisciplinary database covering science, medical, technical, and social science subjects. The Scopus Citation Tracker feature offers powerful citation analysis, yet it is simple to use. Three brief Flash "movies" demonstrate: reviewing a citation list by author, reviewing a citation list by subject, and use of the refine box to view a citation summary. Scopus is on trial through December 31, 2006.

Institute of Physics (IOP) Historic Archive

Through a SUNY consortia arrangement, we recently purchased perpetual access to the IOP Historic Archive. In addition to online access to the backfiles of many important journals, this new arrangement provides access to a few new titles as well as access to additional content for some journals. Included among the new titles are the Journal of Statistical Mechanics, the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, and Metrologia. Access to additional content is provided to Nanotechnology and Physics in Medicine & Biology (both titles are now available through 2004).

For a complete listing of IOP journals that are available online to the UAlbany community, please see http://www.iop.org/EJ/librarians/-assist=subs/.
