SciFinder Scholar Contains Spectral Data

SciFinder Scholar now contains spectral data for about 150,000 compounds. Included are 28,000 IR, 19,000 MS, and 142,000 13C NMR from Wiley and Japan's Integrated Spectral Database System of Organic Compounds. The spectra may be accessed by using the locate feature to retrieve a record for a compound, click on the "microscope" to open the full record, and click on the "experimental properties" link. Note: The spectra is not currently available for the Mac version, but will be available when the full OS X version is released. From the SLA Chemistry Division E-Newsletter 20 (4): 20.

MR Citation Database and MCQ

MathSciNet has a new significant feature: the MR Citation Database. There are 2 ways to search the MR Citation Database. The author search feature performs a cited author search that is similar to Science Citation Index. Up to 10 of the most frequently cited items are listed along with the total number citations. Journal title is the second way to search. It shows the number of items published in the journal for 5 years, the number of citations to the journal for 5 years, and the resulting Mathematical Citation Quotient (MCQ). The MCQ is similar to ISI's Impact Factor, however, the MCQ uses 5 years of data instead of 2 years. The results also include a bar chart that shows citations, in 5-year intervals, back to 1900. For more information on the MR Citation Database, please see Understading the MR Citation Database. Thanks to Lindsay Childs of the UA Math Department for telling me about MSQ.
