American Meteorological Society (AMS) Journals

Access is provided to most of the journals published by the American Meteorological Society. Titles included are Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology, Journal of Applied Meteorology, Journal of Physical Oceanography, Monthly Weather Review, Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology, Weather and Forecasting, Journal of Climate, Journal of Hydrometeorology, and Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society. Most of the journals are available back to volume 1, or a significant backfile is available. Another AMS journal, Earth Interactions, is available online back to volume 1, via Ebsco Academic Search Premier.

American Chemical Society (ACS) Online Journals

The ACS online journals consist of two products: the ACS Web Editions and the ACS Legacy Archives. The ACS Web Editions include online access from 1995 to the present for the following journals: Accounts of Chemical Research, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioconjugate Chemistry, Biomacromolecules, Biotechnology Progress, Chemical Research In Toxicology, Chemical Reviews, Chemistry of Materials, Crystal Growth & Design, Energy & Fuels, Environmental Science & Technology, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, Inorganic Chemistry, Journal of Agricultural & Food Chemistry, Journal of Chemical & Engineering Data, Journal of Chemical Information & Modeling, Journal of Combinatorial Chemistry, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Journal of Natural Products, Journal of Organic Chemistry, Journal of Physical Chemistry (A & B), Journal of Proteome Research, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Langmuir, Macromolecules, Nano Letters, Organic Process Research & Development, Organic Letters, and Organometallics. Several of these journals do not go back to 1995 because they began publishing after that date. The ACS Legacy Archives provides access to all ACS journals from 1879 to 1995. According to its Web site, it contains "23 journals; 971 volumes; 11,117 issues; 464,233 articles."

IOP (Institute of Physics) Journals

The University Libraries subscribe to the IOP Journals "Package B" plus the Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering and Physica Scripta. A listing of the journals in Package B, along with links to their Web pages can be found at http://www.iop.org/EJ/librarians/. Access is also provided to the IOP Historic Archive which covers most of the IOP journals from their inception. ACM Digital Library

The ACM Digital Library is a full text archive of the journals, magazines, and transactions published by the Association for Computing Machinery. All of these publications extend back to their inception. The Digital Library also includes a significant collection of proceedings from ACM conferences and workshops along with newsletters from special interest groups, and journals and conference proceedings from affiliated organizations and publishers. The Digital Library may be browsed or searched, with advanced search and personalization capabilities.

Wildlife Monographs is Added to BioOne

BioOne announces the addition of Wildlife Monographs to its content. Published by the Wildlife Society, Wildlife Monographs supplements the Journal of Wildlife Management, and "presenta substantial, focused scientific investigations pertaining to the knowledge, management, and conservation of wildlife."

New Information Commons in Science Library

The Information Commons, located on the first floor, east side of the Science Library, offers a variety of research and technical resources in an environment that fosters collaboration and creativity. 60 new computers provide a full suite of software as well as Internet access. Chemistry Central Journal is Launched by Chemistry Central

The Chemistry Central Journal is launched by Chemistry Central, a division of PubMed Central. It will be an open access, peer-reviewed, online, international chemistry journal. The journal will publish its first articles in early 2007 and is currently accepting submissions.

JSTOR's General Science Collection

JSTOR's General Science Collection has been renamed as the Health and General Sciences Collection. It will be expanded to include several well-respected health sciences titles. The first three journals to be added are: the American Journal of Nursing (began publication in 1900), Environmental Health Perspectives (began 1972), and the Journal of Community Health Nursing (began 1984). During the next 2 years at least ten more journals will be added, including Epidemiology, Epidemiology and Infection, and European Journal of Epidemiology.

BioOne

BioOne is a collection of over 60 bioscience research journals. Most of the titles are published by small societies and associations, or non-commercial publishers. BioOne has it's own search and browse functions, or it may be searched using the BioOne Abstracts and Index database, published by Cambridge Scientific Abstracts. List of current journals.

IEEE Computer Society Digital Library

The IEEE Computer Society Digital Library provides online access to 22 society magazines, transactions, and letters, as well as a growing collection of conference proceedings. Most of the magazines, transactions, and letters go back to 1988 or to volume 1for publications that began after 1988. Springer Open Choice

For authors that want to make their articles available with full open access, Springer offers the "Open Choice" option. If an author selects this option and pays the article processing fee, the article will be free to anyone, any time, anywhere in the world. American Physical Society Journals

The UAlbany Libraries provide online access to current content and backfiles for all of the journals published by the American Physical Society. This journal collection is also called the Physical Review Online Archive (PROLA). Access includes: Physical Review (sections A - E), Physical Review Letters, Reviews of Modern Physics, Physical Review Focus, Physical Review Special Topics - Accelerators and Beams, and Physical Review Special Topics - Physics Education Research. Also included are access to the earliest volumes of Physical Review (1893+), Reviews of Modern Physics (1929+), and Physical Review Letters (1958+).

Journal Collections

During the next few weeks, the journal collections from the major publishers, which the UAlbany Libraries subscribe to, will be desribed in this blog. The American Physical Society journals will be the first.

Electronic Book of the Month

Programming the Be Operating System by Dan Parks Sydow has been selected as the Electronic Book of the Month for September. This title is published by O'Reilly and is one of several that are currently out of print, but being made freely available as part of their Open Books Project. The Electronic Book of the Month Archive has been updated.

Eprintweb.org

Based on arXiv.org from the Cornell University Library, Eprintweb.org is a free e-print service from the Institute of Physics (IoP). Updated on a daily basis, it is a searchable database covering the fields of physics, mathematics, non-linear science, computer science, and quantitative biology. One of Eprintweb.org's key features is personalization. Registration is not required, but it is necessary to register to take advantage of personalization features like email alerts and tagging.

WWW Chemistry Guide

The WWW Chemistry Guide is a comprehensive guide listing evaluated Web sites related to chemistry and the chemical industry. It is arranged by chemistry disciplines like analytical chemistry, biochemstry, green chemistry, organic chemistry, and polymer chemistry, as well as subjects like blogs, directories, journals, MSDS, and software. There is also a search engine that will search the WWW Chemistry Guide and other important chemistry Web sites.
