Safari Usage Report

UAlbany library users have had access to Safari Tech Books Online since the beginning of 2007. There are nearly 150 books in this collection, which has been fully cataloged and available via Minerva. The collection may also be searched or browsed directly on the Safari Website. Last week I perused the Safari "book usage report." It showed that the books with the most usage are:

Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages by Marty Hall - 723 hits

Microsoft Office Access 2003 Inside Out by John L. Viescas - 175 hits

PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites by Larry Ullman - 172 hits

Access 2003 Personal Trainer - 115 hits

Microsoft Office Access 2003 Step by Step - 106 hits

There's a lot to learn for the usage report, but the first thing that hits me is that MS Access is the subject of 3 of the top 5 books. I was also surprised that there is only one O'Reilly book in the top 5. In January, I will create new reports and study them in more depth; I will use these report to make changes in our collection. The nearly 60 books that showed no use will be targets.

Ms Access is the most popular Windows desktop database application. So no surprise that it comes in 3 of the top 5!
