Cornell Seeks Outside Funding for arXiv

arXiv is a fully automated electronic archive and distribution server for research papers covering physics and the related disciplines of mathematics, nonlinear sciences, and computer science. It can be searched, browsed, and personalized. Cornell spends about $400,000 a year to maintain arXiv, and is seeking support from its heaviest institutional users to sustain this repository. Many of these institutions have already pledged their support. UAlbany is not among the top 200 users, but support may be requested. For more information, please see this news release, and the arXiv Business Model White Paper. [This post was updated with additional information on January 29, 2009.)
