Scholarpedia Encyclopedia of Physics

Written by scholars, Scholarpedia is a peer-reviewed, open access encyclopedia. The Encyclopedia of Physics is one of the focal areas and a portal page. It currently contains many articles, and many more are planned. There are several related encyclopedias, including coverage of condensed matter, nuclear physics, theoretical high energy physics, and statistical mechanics.

Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB)

The Directory of Open Access Books has launched with the goal to increase the discoverability of OA books. DOAB was developed by OAPEN (Open Access Publishing in European Networks) and contains peer reviewed books for many subjects. DOAB can be searched using basic and advanced modes or it can be browsed by title, subject, or publisher. More information is available here.

SciFinder has Enhanced Patent Coverage

With the addition of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO), Chemical Abstracts Service (SciFinder) has enhanced its chemical patent coverage. A list of patent authorities covered by CAS via SciFinder is available here.

IP Awareness Assessment

Developed by USPTO and NIST, IP Awareness Assessment is a tool that is "designed to help evaluate IP asset awareness and target areas specific to those related business needs. The tool provides access to educational materials based on the assessment results." Full assessment consists of 62 questions and takes 20 - 30 minutes. A pre-assessment is also available; it contains 5 questions and takes about three minutes

Nature Precedings Will No Longer Accept Submissions

Launched in 2007, Nature Preceding was described in this blog in October 2007. Nature Publishing Group recently announced that beginning today (April 3, 2012), they will no longer accept submissions. However, Nature Precedings will be archived and all hosted content will remain freely accessible. Additional information is available here.
