San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA)

Journal Impact Factor (JIF) is often used to measure scholarly output, however, JIF was created to help librarians identify journals for purchase. A group of editors and publishers of scholarly journals met in December 2012 at the annual meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology to find options to "improve the ways in which the outputs of scientific research are evaluated." The group developed the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). Many individuals and organizations have signed and endorsed DORA, and the group is encouraging others to sign the Declaration. DORA can be viewed and signed here.
