Monuments Men Screening at the University Libraries

Monuments Men Photo

A screening of Monuments Men, the riveting documentary about German art plunders during WWII and the work of the Allies to save our cultural heritage, will occur on Friday, April 28, 2017, noon-1:00 p.m. in the Cobb Room (lower level, B43) of the University Libraries. Complimentary popcorn will be provided.

During WWII the Nazis plundered some of the world's greatest art works as they tore across Europe. Learn how the Allies tracked down these priceless works, what they saved, and what is still missing to this day.

The screening is being organized by the Libraries' Alice Hastings Murphy Preservation Department in concert with "Preservation Week," a project sponsored by the American Library Association to highlight the importance of preserving our cultural heritage whether it be paintings, sculpture, sound recordings, manuscripts, books, or buildings. "Preservation Week" has occurred annually since 2005. This year's "Preservation Week" is April 23-29, 2017.

"I am looking forward to the screening of Monuments Men," says Dean of University Libraries Rebecca Mugridge. "I find that the themes of the film connect with the message of 'Preservation Week.' These values are vital to an academic library."
