University Libraries to Host New York Archives Conference

The 2018 New York Archives Conference (NYAC) will be held at the University at Albany, June 6-8, 2018. Conference registration, lodging information, and the conference program can be found here:

Highlights of the conference include a welcome and plenary address from State Archivist, Thomas Ruller, on the “State of the State: The Archival Landscape in New York;” a luncheon talk by Paul Grondahl, award-winning author, journalist, and Director of the New York State Writers Institute on “Why Archives Matter: Field Notes from a Journalist and Biographer;” and an evening reception at the New York State Museum, complete with free rides on its historic carousel, built in 1912 by the Herschell-Spillman Company based in North Tonawanda, New York.

The Documentary Heritage and Preservation Services for New York (DHPSNY) will host a pre-conference workshop on Wednesday, June 6 on “Identification and Preservation of Photo Collections.”

NYAC is excited to offer conference sessions on “Preservation and Management of Born Digital Records,” “Next Generation Historians,” “Exhibiting the Lesbian Herstory Archives,” and much more. Additionally, a variety of poster presentations on such topics as the LaMaMa Experimental Theater Club archives and the “Linking and Mapping of a 1940's New Orleans African-American Jazz Community” will take place on Thursday afternoon
