Kick Off Stress Less Month

On Thursday, May 2, from 12:30 to 2:00 pm in the Science Library Atrium, the University Libraries will host a visit from the therapy dogs. The visit will be the first of many stress relieving events the Libraries will provide as part of its biannual Stress Less Month.

Frequently found on university campuses during exam seasons, therapy dogs have been shown to alleviate test anxiety. Recent studies indicate they also reduce feelings of stress and depression.*

Amanda Lowe, Outreach & Marketing Librarian, describes the therapy dogs program as a fan favorite. “When I am at these events, I always have students coming up and thanking me for bringing the dogs,” she explains. “I hear frequently that the therapy dogs were the best part of their day and helped take their minds off the stress of finals, if only for an hour or so.”

Rebecca Mugridge, Dean of University Libraries, echoes this sentiment. “I am pleased the Libraries can bring the campus community together during the stress of final exams.”

The program is free and open to students, faculty, and staff.
