The University Libraries are pleased to announce the return of Stress Less Month, a programming campaign designed to alleviate exam fatigue and anxiety. Activities will run from May 1 to 16, taking place at all three libraries

This semester's calendar features some of the series' greatest hits, including therapy dogs, coffee breaks, and the Primal Scream. A full listing of events can be found at the Stress Less Month LibGuide available here: https://libguides.library.albany.edu/c.php?g=537454&p=3677995.

With 16 events on the schedule, the spring 2019 semester makes for the most ambitious Stress Less series to date.

“If you asked me back in the fall of 2014 if I thought Stress Less was going to be this successful and grow to be so well known and loved, I wouldn't have believed you,” says Outreach & Marketing Librarian, Amanda Lowe, who created the Stress Less initiative. “Since 2014 we have expanded Stress Less to our downtown library, added and changed programs based on demand, expanded to include some programming during midterms, and started stress relieving programs in advance of finals week.”

“The response from students, staff, and faculty has been tremendous,” Lowe explains. “These programs are so important during high stress times of year—they remind everyone how very important it is to take care of yourself during exams. We look forward to continuing to the Stress Less programs of the future.”

The University Libraries first produced exam season programming during the fall 2014 semester, then known as Stress Less UAlbany @ Your Libraries. The programming has grown over the course of the last four years, reaching hundreds of students in the process. The move to a month-long feature occurred during the fall 2017 semester.

Additionally, the Dewey Graduate Library will continue hosting its own brand of Stress Less Month. The schedule of Dewey Library events can be found here: http://libguides.library.albany.edu/c.php?g=754778&p=5409158.

“Stress Less at the Dewey Graduate Library focuses on mindfulness, giving students an opportunity to take a break and then refocus on the task at hand,” notes Cathy Dwyer, Director of Scholarly Communication and Head, Dewey Graduate Library. “Students have embraced our stress less stations during past exam periods, and their favorites will be back this semester including the positivity wall, aromatherapy station, and coloring pages, as well as our signature event, coffee, tea, and lemonade on Reading Day.”

“The University Libraries do so much to assist students academically all year long,” says Rebecca Mugridge, Dean of University Libraries. “But it is important to provide some stress relief as they prepare for final exams as well.”
